Good ground application. For astronomical use, this is a good scope for beginners. You can see the moon in great detail. With a smaller eyepiece, he can see the polar caps of Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn. You can just point the telescope at one star and it turns into many stars. Not bad. The optics are ok, the quality is a bit better than with my other riflescopes in this price range. Get a 6mm gold line eyepiece and enjoy Saturn!
