I am currently using one of the free bedrooms for my creative work. It's a large space, which is good, but I was a little limited on how to plan the space. You see, the computer and printer were on one side of the room. Until recently I had a really large Lian Li computer case on my floor that was perfect for my flatbed scanner. After the PC disappeared, there was actually no suitable place left for the scanner. It is, and I don't actually use it that often. The solution came in the form of the TRIPP LITE B203-101-PNP Transmitter and Receiver with 1 USB 2.0 Over Cat5 Cat6 Extender Hub. I have already shared the scanner with multiple PCs using the USB selector switch (you connect it to multiple PCs and use the button to select which PC can access the device). While everything should be fine, I wasn't 100% sure Tripp Lite would be compatible with my setup. To reduce the number of variables I connected the transmitter to one of the PCs. I put the receiver on the scanner; The receiver comes with a power adapter, so you need to plug it in. Although it wasn't the final configuration, I plugged in a 20ft CAT5e cable and it worked! From there I moved the transmitter to the USB switch. And good luck again! Now the hardest part. I connected the house to ethernet where the cables return to the perforated panels in the closet. Since I wanted the scanner to be throughout the room, I removed the ethernet patch cords from the switch for each of the ports I wanted to use for the Tripp Lite. I then used a jumper to connect the hole jacks. Electrically it's not much different than a single cable, so in theory it should work. The main problem is that you have to consider the length of the cable as well as the losses in the connections. Using a cable tester, he estimated the length of the "cable" to be 115 feet. This is less than the 50m this product calls the limit. And the moment of truth? It worked! Generally no problems. If there were any complaints, I would come back to the power supply of the receiver. I have no problem with this device consuming power. My only power supply is 5V @ 2A. Serious. When it comes to power requirements, why not include a male USB-A cable? I have other devices in the area that can output 5V 2A so it would be nice not to be able to connect another power supply. Come on - the main thing is that the product works. highlighted.
