Amazing and Versatile EV Charger

The Tier 1 charger that came with my 2012 Chevy Volt (literally) melted in my hot southern Utah garage while I was charging my car. I had just moved in and the garage was not yet hooked up to my Tier 2 charger so this charger was perfect to replace the original as it allowed charging from existing 120v 15 amp outlets. I particularly like the multiple power settings, which are useful for reducing power consumption to prevent the controller, electrical wiring, outlet, and charging cable from overheating on hot days. Temperatures reach 115 degrees Fahrenheit in my uninsulated garage. This charger regulates its own temperature which is an added bonus. Today it read 46 degrees Celsius (115 degrees Fahrenheit) when charging at 240V and 12 amps. So far it has not been switched off due to overheating. Actually I used this because my other level 2 charger (not current regulated) was getting very hot. After purchasing this charger, I installed a 240v, 20 amp outlet. This charger plugs into the same outlet as my existing Level 2 charger. Its magic is that you can plug it into 120 or 240 volt outlets with the included adapter cable and it all works automatically. I can't think of a better charger for my needs. The zipped pouch that comes with the charger is a nice bonus for storing in the back of the car and is quite compact. My only disappointment is that the charger doesn't fit in its original storage space under the back mat in my car. There were two wireless key fobs with the charger to adjust current settings. I kept one in the garage with the included wall mount/cable hook and the other in my charger storage bag. I'll probably wire one of these up using the included key ring and maybe a zip tie or velcro. I love this new charger so much I'm tempted to leave it in the garage and buy a second one for a long haul car that has outlets but no chargers.
