Chose composites on the advice of a friend who said he had less trouble with plastic than metal in the cold. Let's see how well they stand up to our cold Canadian winter! Before purchasing I was a bit worried about the quality of the bearings but was very pleasantly surprised when they arrived. Smooth-running, no play, very pleasant feel - no notches and hooks. I was also impressed by their low weight. I don't use clips in the summer and these pedals aren't much heavier than my SPD. Speaking of grip, the spikes on the pedal surfaces simply grab into your shoe and won't let go! When I ride (so far) I just wear your regular low walking shoes and the pedals are not slippery at all. I have to consciously take my foot off the pedal to change lanes. And they come with a few extra spikes just in case. So far these pedals have treated me well. They haven't bitten me yet, but I can see that a bite would be worse than barking with those toothy puppies. (Hee hee, look what I did there!) The price is unbeatable for this quality, I can confidently recommend RockBros pedals **** Four stars only because I don't know how they withstand the cold. .****
