I bought this tire because I wanted a tire that was more comfortable than the 650cx23. The ripper is very flexible with a nice flexible sidewall and the larger volume allows me to work with less pressure. However, the central part of the tread is still thin, although thicker than the rest of the tyre. I got two flats from Spikes on my first trip, which never happened to me. I suspect it might be a coincidence, I think it's a combination of that and the thinner profile compared to the tires I'm used to. The comfort I wanted was achieved, but at the expense of the whole breakdown stopping thing. I might try the liner. Edit: Unfortunately, 650c tires larger than 23mm are rare. Aside from the more expensive Terry tire, this might be your only choice. I'd probably settle for the better 650x23 and add more padding to the handlebars if comfort is an issue.
