Review on Avocent 4 Port USB KVM Switch with Audio and USB 2.0 Hub, supporting DVI connections by Jonathan Yang

The best DVI KVM on the market, although not perfect

Hello, I recently purchased this Avocent Switchview 4-Port DVI KVM Switch and am pleased to report that it meets most of my needs . Firstly, at resolutions from 1600x1200, the video quality is practically not lost. The switch works well if you have a USB keyboard and USB mice EXCEPT if you have a USB trackball mouse. I have a Kensington Expert Pro trackball mouse and it is not recognized by this switch. However, you can always use a mouse via the USB hub provided in the switch. Now, the hub has its pros and cons. At first I started getting "divide by zero" blue screen errors, but later I realized that they were due to device driver corruption. I thought that not plugging a mouse into the mouse switch USB port caused these errors, but that's not the case. that aren't fast enough to switch and break after 3 or 4 switches, or because the switcher just can't use two USB devices at the same time. I had a Creative Audigy NX USB sound card and Kensington mouse plugged into it and I was getting a blue screen error every 10 minutes. The moment I plugged in the USB sound card, the computers have been running stably ever since, but at the same time I can't use my trackball mice and the USB sound card at the same time, which I was able to do in the Belkin SOHO DVI switch, although this one Switch had various problems. I give this switcher 5 stars because it does what it says on the tin, although my expectations were a bit higher for using 5.1 channel audio. However, if you just want to share a USB keyboard and mouse between two computers along with a DVI monitor, this switch is perfect. I hope my review helps the potential buyers who are also planning to share their USB 5.1 or better sound cards. with this switch.
