Revainrating 3 out of 5

It's been a rocky road so far. I still hope.

Update 2: AOC got back to me. Their official answer was "Brightness/Color and Portrait mode don't work on Windows 10." Given that Windows 10 has been the current version of Windows for a number of years and they only released this monitor in May. You should probably place this constraint in a prominent place. Update 1: I have contacted Displaylink (driver manufacturer) and AOC regarding brightness/rotation issues. AOC has not returned to me yet. but display link is there. They told me that versions lower than 8.2 of the Display Link drivers "might prevent Windows 10 from booting." The AOC drive is version 7.9. Apparently 7.9 supported Windows 10 Preview and worked "normally" unless it prevented Windows from starting until it was removed. Why do you need an old driver? Well, Displaylink has redesigned the driver for Windows 10 and changed the way it works so that it is integrated into the Windows display properties. Unfortunately, this version does NOT support dimming or auto-rotation. They say it "might" be reintroduced in a later version. So if you use it with Windows 10, it becomes a crappy shooter. it could work. or it can prevent Windows from loading. The likelihood of this happening later will likely increase with the newer version of Windows 10 you're running. If this driver doesn't work, you can use the latest Display Link driver to use the monitor. However, you can't adjust the brightness or auto-rotate the screen when you turn it over. Original review I bought it from Revain and it arrived today. it wasn't in the typical Revain brown box, it was the regular box you find it in in the store. It was a little wrinkled after delivery, but everything was fine inside. I suspect they sent them from AOC as they had trouble keeping them in stock. I really hope so, but it's definitely been a bumpy ride so far. here is my experience. Just for perspective, I'm a software engineer with over 30 years of development and IT experience, this isn't my first rodeo. I installed the drivers from the CD following the quick start guide. The driver installation posts you read said it only worked on Windows 7, 8 or Windows 10 release versions and may stop working at any time in Windows 10 pre-release version. In other words, drivers before the version of Windows 10 were installed on the disc, and on it were beta drivers for Windows 10. After the installation was complete, I was prompted to connect the monitor for the first time. When I did that, the AOC screen lit up. then both screens went blank and stayed that way. After 10 minutes I restarted and my computer wouldn't start anymore. I had to restore it to a save point before the driver was installed to get the computer working again. So no luck with the included installation disk. So I went to displaylink.com and downloaded the latest driver. It seems they redesigned the driver late last year to work better with Windows 10 and the latest version was released last month. In any case, it installed without any problems. When I connected the monitor everything was fine. a mirror image of my main monitor. So I went into the display settings and said expand the display and everything worked fine again. I haven't checked for lag yet, but nothing was immediately noticeable. But. it should only be, but one or two aren't there. First, there is no way to adjust the brightness. the brightness slider in the display settings is greyed out/inactive. and while the document tells you that if you click the icon link icon in the toolbar, the device should show up in the list of monitors. This is not the case, so there is no way to adjust the settings in the Display Link driver. or anything else about the monitor. Auto rotation doesn't work either. So you cannot rotate the screen to a vertical position and rotate the screen automatically. It should be so. but apparently, in their infinite wisdom, AOC released a brand new monitor that only supports dimming and auto-refocus on an outdated driver that crashes Windows 10. As I said. I have a difficult relationship with this monitor. I haven't even spent much time looking at the quality of the screen. I will update it as I play with it more. the stars will rise or will they fall? is it a guard or back? We will see.
