Firstly, I personally like using M1 filters which have an extended life of 20,000 miles. They cost $10-17 depending on the price. They cost $5 and are still great filters. So. In the summer, when I don't mind changing the oil every 3-4k miles and keeping it fresh and clean, I use them. In winter, when I'm transplanting much dirtier snow and mud, I use the M1 with a spare of 8,000 km. That's usually enough to get me from mid-December to April. In summary, if you plan on changing your oil at 4500 miles or less, this filter is ideal and better than most other filters, with the exception of advanced filters which can hold a lot more dirt and grime. Keep them away from the oil pan. My car is turbocharged and direct injected and needs to be changed more frequently. Even with advanced filters and 20,000 miles of oil, 8,000 is the absolute max I will drive.
