Price $75 each for similar stands from BMW dealer x 2 = $150. I'm sure they will install for free (!). Got them on time. I was nervous that it would be difficult to undo the bottom end of the old hood struts because it's hard to see there, but just do it: you can see where the clips on the ends need to be pulled out. First make the top clamp to feel it with a small flathead screwdriver. Bingo. Light. The clip is out. Now put the screwdriver in the same position for the bottom clip that's hard to see. Pry it up a bit with a screwdriver and jump! the lower clip flies. The old one is out. Literally 20 seconds. I apply some lube to the inner section of the ball hole of the strut above the ball and then pull up and down. Did. Do the other side. I almost have more time typing this than installing the hood struts! And I saved a trip to the dealer and about $130. Oh, don't forget to brace the hood - I used a vise on an "other" old strut that I haven't worked on. After you install the first side, the hood will stay up by itself. Beautiful and easy with your own hands!
