Apparently, unbeknownst to us, there is a fatal flaw in trying to peel apples that aren't rock hard. It looks like the spring holding the part of the tool that moves along the spindle flutes isn't strong enough, or the spring holding the roughing blade is too strong. The guide, moving along the groove of the spindle, comes out of the grooves and the apple stops feeding to the peeler, allowing the paring knife to continue cutting into the apple in the same place. Judging by the reviews, this is due to the "soft" off-season apples. Requires a hard apple. Haven't tried one yet, so until that happens and proves itself, the device is a total failure.
