Review on πŸ”ͺ Olson FB23105DB 0.025 10.5 Inch Blade by Joel Young

Great blade at a great price

This was one of the few blades I ordered to try a cheaper alternative to Wolf wooden blades. The wooden wolf blades I had were great, but a bit pricey, and after sawing my 1/4" Knack through a 2 foot section of 6x6 cedar, I decided to use this inexpensive 1/2" Tried customs for such work and the first real use of the project was as a nativity scene for my church to replace one that was lost during the flood. Aside from the plywood base, it was made by sawing the same 6x6 as the 1/4" blade and another piece. I kept the original cedar exterior for the roof by making 1/2" planks. Then saw the now smoother section into 1 1/4" planks and then into 1 1/4" square posts. The finish left by the blade was ideal for a rustic look but not as prone to splintering as the original exterior and suited traditional nativity scenes. The blade went through the cedar quickly and correctly - indeed there was no displacement or deflection, and no attempts to plan or connect anything ensued. The siding was also made from 1/2 inch boards sawn from the studs. The reason for the 4 stars is that there is some rattling when moving - not as smooth as the wooden wolf blades out of the box. The weld seemed smooth, just maybe a slight crease in the weld, and I don't know if grinding the back of the blade lightly with a whetstone would help. I use this 105" blade on my 14" Riser Grizzly. I will update this review. when the vibration increases or after sawing through something more complex than soft cedar like hard maple or oak.
