I just bought a 2004 Corvette (love the body style and the pop-up headlights - he had them last year) and decided to add a subwoofer in the sunroof. I wasn't looking for a nightclub in my car, I was looking for something that balanced the sound and I didn't want to spend a lot. I chose this sub because of the price. I bought the 12" CX122. After building a custom 1.2 cu. foot (this was interesting from all angles as I wanted it to sit flat in the sunroof and point up at the glass to get the sound to distribute but my CNC did an easy job) and plugged it in, I was shocked! This sub sounds amazing for the money. I'm pushing it around 250W RMS and running it at 80Hz and below. The bass is amazing. Me may not have been looking for a nightclub in my car but found one when i wanted hard hitting no distortion and crunch not sure how cheap it is but it is it even has very good screw terminals and very good build quality. As far as I can tell they are up to date with QC. If you plug it in and it sounds bad I'd bet it's because of what you're doing. Make sure you the recommended housing Be sized and use cushioning material such as polyethylene filler. This model requires a sealed case. I doubt it'll handle 1400 watts, but in a reasonable system it'll add a serious amount of full and tight, punchy bass. I can feel it at both low and high volumes. However, in the world of car radio, everyone exaggerates the numbers. Reasonably it will probably handle 1/3 of 1400 (400-500W RMS max). Aside from the over the top performance (which almost all manufacturers do) this is an excellent subwoofer. Will it pass the self-proclaimed audiophile test? Probably not (but only a few), but it will do for the 99% of people like me who want a great sounding system on a budget. And my RTA tests don't contradict me. This is truly an amazing budget subwoofer. In summary, this column is everything I hoped for and more. I couldn't be happier. Some of the more expensive models might sound better (although at these low frequencies most people won't be able to tell the difference), but for the money it's a great investment. I'm adding one to my wife's SUV next!
