Review on πŸ“· Enhance Your Raspberry Pi HQ Camera with Arducam's Wide Angle CS-Mount Lens: 6mm Focal Length, Manual Focus, and Adjustable Aperture by Bud Crabtree

Revainrating 4 out of 5

A very nice lens. There is still room for improvement. Impeccable customer support.

The packaging came very nice, well done. The quality of the material of the lenses seems to be very good, they are strong and durable. The lens is still light, mainly due to its size. Externally it looks very beautiful, the varnish seems resistant, printed letters are very clear. What to Expect: The front lens thread appears to be larger in the product images so it would be possible to fit a filter but this was not the case with what I received. The front thread is small, I don't think it can hold a filter. The filter thread seems to be 28 mm, 27 mm doesn't work, it's smaller than the thread. Aperture: Due to its tiny size, this lens only has 3 aperture blades, resulting in an odd triangular shape for lens flares on the side of the lens. photo or video. C-mount lenses look like tiny DSLR handheld lenses, but this lens is more like an M12 lens in a nice metal body, so you can focus at different distances and have a variable aperture. As stated in the product description, this is a CS mount lens BUT it is not a CS lens. The back focal length of this lens is 7.53mm, which is 5mm shorter than the CS lens. On a CS mount camera, this lens does not focus at all. In fact, there is no focus ring. What looks like a focus ring is actually part with the lens mount, so focusing is like an M12 lens: you unscrew half the lens to focus (the lens mount is like the base of the lens), and in some Cases the aperture moves with. Unscrew or unscrew the lens. To set the aperture properly, you need to hold the front of the lens and then move the aperture ring. After all, this is a small, lightweight lens for $22, expecting more from this lens would be misplaced. Room for improvement: Aperture blades dark silver (metal blades) I believe these should have been tinted black to avoid internal lens flare. The front element is flat, more like a filter to prevent dust from entering the lens. The real problem is that it collects dust very easily and is difficult to clean. Violation of the rules: quality control. The lens I received has dust and some large paint chips that will definitely show up in the captured image. A large chip right in the center of the lens and two more around the edges. Dust on small sensors is very difficult to detect (what would a large chip of paint look like?). I increased my overall rating from 1 star to 4 because the seller was quick and very kind in contacting me and giving me a full refund to quickly resolve my issue. Location. I left 4 stars because I still can't verify the picture quality. But if you also get a non-ideal device, you can be sure that the seller will quickly solve the problem.

Pros
  • It just works - we tested this lens alongside many other options for the RPi HQ 12MP camera. No lens shading, no dark corners, decent image quality, everything just works.
Cons
  • Not sure
