Difficult to learn but worth it

I bought these just before October, which was the perfect time to use them in the national Inktober contest (where you draw something in ink every day throughout the month). I was looking for a way to easily blend my ink drawings without resorting to watercolors or expensive Prismatic paints and this is a good middle ground. They're difficult to use at first because of the lines they create when you superimpose strokes, but once you've taken the time to practice on a few drawings, they're a good choice. The trick is to treat them like watercolors and start with the lightest shade and work your way down, layering the same shade on top of each other if needed for an even look. Not for the faint of heart, because if you screw something up, there's no way to fix it. I recommend using a lightbox to duplicate the original drawings to darken them until you are sure of them. Most of the markers are green and some are blue, so I suggest making a sample sheet where you can make sure you're using the correct values that mix easily. To be honest they were quite difficult to learn at first and I don't think I would have beaten them if I hadn't been involved with Inktober. It really motivated me to keep going until I get it, for which I'm very grateful. The shading is excellent and really brings my artwork to life. Update (a year later): Because of the nature of these markers and how you can create different values simply by overlaying the same color, I swore by them for life. You totally spoiled me. With this little set I can get any shade I want. I bought some other colored markers but I miss my tombows. I will definitely invest in some of their color sets next time.

Not enough color variance.
