A real crap! in Molding & Casting

The only reason I'm giving these two stars is because I can't think of a better way to physically commemorate my post-baby bump. real crap. All pregnancy apps talk about cast so I thought why not? It looked cheap, easy and fun. No, it's not fun (and I'm pretty tricky!) Tips: - Don't bother lubricating the bud. Lubrication causes the heavy, wet plaster to move, slide, and fall. Ask someone else to do it to you instead of doing it to yourself. It might be a good idea to lie down on a warm, soft, easy-to-clean surface. The process is wet, gooey, powdery and just plain disgusting. No, it will not dry out enough in 10 minutes to be removed. Prepare a place to lie down for 30-60 minutes until dry enough to remove without warping. - No, it is not ready for sanding and painting after 24 hours as indicated in the instructions. - Shorter strips (palm length) are better for all areas (chest and abdomen) than longer strips (forearm length). The instructions recommend a longer length for the belly, but then you end up with all sorts of folds and creases because the curves aren't flat! - If the instructions say to soak the strips in warm water, cold water works fine and you hardly need to soak them. If I were to do it again I would use a spray bottle. Using too much water will make the strips too wet and the strips will not stick together well. - The chest area is not easy to do! I would recommend it last, after a hit. I think all my movements (to make the bulge) make it very difficult. I don't think I've worked with cast much because the texture of a dry bandage really puts me off. It seems so powdery that it would be messy to keep around the house. (I'll carefully paint the cast with acrylic paint and see how it turns out.) The biggest bummer is that I don't think it really matches my curvature. I had to hold the dry bandage in place much longer so it doesn't stretch out a bit as it dries out of shape. Perhaps using a blow dryer would help speed up the initial drying process. Interestingly enough, people just love a tummy tuck and put up with this messy, unsatisfying process because pregnancy is special in some ways. If I didn't want to remember my belly, I would never do it again. I hope I don't have a crazy desire to do it again when I have a second child.
