Review on Rechargeable LED Camping Lantern Flashlight Solar Powered, 3000 Bright Portable Survival Kit Light With USB Charger For Power Outage, Emergency, Camping & Tent Hand Crank by Kevin Folsom

no safety switch means this unit turns on by itself while in your bag

This lantern was such a disappointment - the only reason we gave it 2 stars is because it is correct in concept - it is lightweight, compact, rechargeable with a charge indicator, serves as a power bank, can be charged by solar, and has a hand crank in an emergency. That said, the lantern totally fails in execution and hope the next revision fixes a bunch of issues described below.First and foremost, this lantern does not last anywhere close to the advertised 35 hrs - in fact, our first test was only *5* hrs! while i’m sure it is possible we could have gotten a bum battery - this order of magnitude difference (short *86%* of advertised capacity) just goes to show the company does not even do any basic QA before sending units out the door. The unit is missing a safety switch or locking mechanism - so if you threw the lantern in your duffel bag, back of the car, or your backpack, it’s guaranteed to open and find a dead lantern when you get to your destination. This fault alone was a dealbreaker regardless of whether it has the correct battery capacity. We ended up getting an Enbrighten LED lantern that gets 75 hours on a 4400 mAh battery and is *much* brighter on its lowest settting (so it must be a ton more efficient) It also has a provision to insert 3 removable D batteries for 350 additional hours (alkaline) or in our tests, 175 additional hours (rechargables) - a net of 250-425 hrs total!) - now of course it is not so lightweight (or compact) and does not have alternative charging mechanisms like solar or handcrank - we decided it makes more sense to get an external solar charger when they become more affordable. So do yourself a favor and save yourself the trouble and spend $10-15 more on a better quality lantern. You’ll thank yourself should you need your lantern in an emergency!

Pros
  • Excelente muy útil
Cons
  • The lantern may not have a long enough reach to provide adequate lighting in larger spaces
