Review on πŸ”Œ SIIG Mini-DP Video Dock - Mini DisplayPort to HDMI/DisplayPort, USB 3.0 Hub & Gigabit Ethernet Port for Macbooks, Surface Pros | JU-H30212-S1 by Adam Allard

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Where are the instructions?

My sample came with four rubber feet already fitted (good) but I found the packaging to be excessive (harmful to the environment). I didn't rate durability as I've only had this device a few weeks, but it seems well made enough to tolerate some abuse. This SIIG Mini DP video dock works as advertised for HDMI video output, Gigabit Ethernet connection and USB. 3 connections. I haven't tested DisplayPort but would be quite surprised if it wasn't fully functional. The supplied user manual is graphically well designed, contains comprehensive specifications and is well illustrated. There are two downsides: (1) There are no instructions such as "insert the docking station's X-connector into your computer's X-port" or "insert the outputs before/after inserting the inputs". (2) The description of the optional external power connector is detailed but more confusing than helpful. This description likely means "Connect an optional 5V DC external power supply to a 3.5mm power plug with a negative shield and a positive tip." The line drawing of the plug does not conform to standard engineering drawing practice and probably would most Confuse readers even if they did. A good photo of a matching fork would have been better. Bottom line: if you trade a MiniDisplayPort (Thunderbolt 2-port) and a USB 3-port for two USB 3-ports, a Gigabit Ethernet port, and your choice of HDMI video or DisplayPort video, four people becomes good work, the SIIG Mini-DP Dock Video Dock should serve you well. My rating goes up to five stars if you don't need good instructions or have clear wiring instructions after future releases.
