My kitchen has no subfloor, so it is laminate on top of cement. It is hard and sometimes makes my hobby (cooking and baking) a practice in torture. I had a cheap mat that after 6 years decided to replace with something a little more stylish. Is thinner than my other mat and it comes with two, but, it really doesn't feel much more comfortable. The redeeming quality is the surface is less porous than my previous one so it is easier to clean spilled flour.
