Review on Pound O Dice by Chessex: Your Ultimate Solution for Ample Dice Supply by Drexel Wortham

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Ugly, meager assortment: game accessories

I knew these would be in stock. I was excited to sort through them and hunt for 'treasures' with my kids just like we did with the d6 pound. I chose this bag over Wiz Dice for something extra or a few handpicked sets so we can enjoy sorting and assembling our own unique sets. Also, it's Chessex, so I knew it was going to be decent. From the bulleted list: - Customize your games with your personal set of dice - Dice come in all types, styles and colors. This is a big disappointment. It's an awful assortment, complete with dirty, disgusting colors and halves. Dirty is the only word for it - there's nothing pretty about them. And this is the ONLY reach. 15 identical semi-dark green, semi-dark red d20 is this an assortment? 13 red and black speckled d10? A handful of dirty mottled d6s in various shades of '70s Formica? Broken (literally, the end has broken off leaving a hole like void) d10? The third might be condescendingly called "Bloodstone" (mostly red with black, blue, or green speckles, all d10 and d12). There's nothing that comes close to being a complete set (except for the bonus set, which is so hilariously ugly I was tempted to skip it) or even close to enough color to make a decent second set . Even "bloodstones" vary so much that you would have a hard time finding two d10s that could work together. purple vortex d4s. I seriously feel like I've been used here. The only use case I see for this is a few add-ons for new players, but in that case why not just buy two decent sets at $10 each? 2 stars because there is a pound here and they appear to be Chessex marks. I return them and get a set of magic dice for literally $5 more - they may not be Chessex quality, but as far as I can see these 'pound dice' aren't Chessex quality either, and at least they're cute and will encourage me children want to play, not give a big "Ah".

Pros
  • Everything is fine!
Cons
  • Low maintainability
