When it comes to peeling corn off the cob, Revane got a decent amount of money from me while trying to figure out the right method to remove the corn The piston. I've tried pretty much everything on offer here including: - With a chef's knife. This works fine, but the grains go everywhere. β Kuhn Rikon corn zipper. I scooped out the corn cobs, there wasn't enough corn, and what happened was scattered everywhere. The all-metal is difficult to handle if your hands are even slightly damp.- Fox Run Corn Stripper. Weak and difficult to use. Once you find a cob that fits in the hole, it's hard to control and the corn will fly all over the place. - Corn cutter. Butt hollowed out. The blade is difficult to adjust. It's hard to hold on with one hand and try to start the cob with the other. Never found out. More pain than it's worth. - Kuhn Rikon corn zipper. Like a super sharp potato peeler. Difficult to control, very easy to cut yourself. Corn goes anywhere. Finally this OXO Corn Stripper. It cuts the corn without crushing the cob. The container holds enough and is easy to empty. I had no problems with corn sprouts. Yes, you can still scratch yourself with it if you're not careful, and a cut-resistant glove (appropriate size) is recommended. Some cornmeal, but much less than other methods. Conclusion: I'm not usually the type to keep a bunch of Unitaskern around, but sometimes I find someone who actually gets the job done faster and/or neater. This is one of those gadgets. It is the winner and the keeper. Update August 31, 2015 Just an update to say I've had this stripper for five years now and am still happy with it. We used it last night to husk two dozen ears of fine fresh corn on the farm. With Mrs Boilermate cleaning and hulling the corn and me cleaning it, we were able to cook the whole batch in about an hour. The reservoir holds 1/2 to 3/4 of an ear before I had to empty it. When I started the corn on the cob, a small amount of juice came out and a few random kernels came out, but overall the job was done with a minimum of mess. When my boyfriend got married this summer, it was one of her wishes. list. I gladly bought it and added it to the gift basket I put together for him and his new bride.
