I bought two of these to use in each of my 5 gallon tanks. An important part of sponge filters is finding the right air pump for the size of your aquarium. If you don't like the constant gurgling, I suggest putting an air stone in the filter to disperse the bubbles more evenly. These special filters require a little effort from you if you want to add an aerostone. I cut out the center spokes at the top so I can easily insert a 1 inch air stone. Still works like a charm!
