Before you really get to the exfoliating part you need to go through the initial layer of wax but once you do that it works pretty well. It tastes sweet if you taste a little of it in your mouth, but other flavors it contains are not very pleasant. I wet my lips and rub the "lipstick" back and forth across my lips, then focus on problem areas. I then rub scrub bits into my lips and then wipe them off with a cloth dampened with warm water. Although the scrub itself contains moisturizing ingredients, it's definitely important to add a lip balm or other moisture barrier immediately after use. It really helps make matte lipsticks smoother.
