Engineering fails, these reviews seem to apply to different versions.

As an engineer I can say that this product is a design flaw. The most annoying part is the step. When you push it down, the step's design directs most of your power horizontally instead of vertically. Thus, it becomes more of a "rejection” than a "sink.” Result: The damn container moves about 2 inches each time the step is used. makes angry. It either needs to be leaned against a wall where it will mark the wall forever, or it needs to be readjusted daily as it walks across the floor. Absurd. In addition, the lid CAN be opened by 45 degrees with the help of a step. May be. It should be 80-90 degrees. Because of this limited range of motion, you can only throw food at a certain angle. Pretty annoying. And the whole lid lock thing? What a trick. Everything is too complicated. Buy the right size garbage bag, attach it securely to the lid and you won't need such a thing. Rubbermaid should have spent their engineering dollars on something else—the lock on the lid is a marketing gimmick. buyer's remorse. I would return it if it weren't so big and chunky, but not worth the hassle here. And at that price I should have just made my own. I also don't know where these great reviews are coming from, but upon closer inspection it seems like many people are considering different versions of the product. Very deceptive. Bad buying experience.
