Review on A16001 AquaClear Impeller Shaft Filters by Troy Williams

Revainrating 5 out of 5

The best way to quiet an Aquaclear filter that's been running for a long time

When the Aquaclear filter starts making more noise than before, pull out the impeller shaft. This is a thin metal rod that the impeller assembly spins on. This rod must have a perfectly uniform diameter throughout the length of the rod. As it wears out, it starts to thin out in the middle. Due to the thinner bar, the impeller assembly wobbles back and forth and the motor bangs against the sides, causing noise. I use my filter 24/7. I realized I replaced the impeller shaft 9 months after my last purchase. I'm sure I could keep it running for a few more months before my wife starts complaining about it. But for $6 it's worth the quiet. It also calms down the filter. Buy a pair of these, one to replace and one to have on hand next time.

Pros
  • Outstanding performance
Cons
  • When in doubt
