Good design. Easy to install and use

This device is easy to use. However, if you have someone in the house who struggles with either visual impairment or manual dexterity and doesn't have the coordination to perform multi-step tasks with their hands, be sure to try fitting a unit with a center screw and see if the person can let go and just open the device. If they can't easily open this device with practice and adequate lighting, you certainly don't want them struggling to open the door in an emergency or under pressure in low light conditions. If the door you are going to install this on is a typical "right hand door", this means that when the door is viewed from the outside, the hinge is on the right side of the door and opens the door into the building. Because this device is mounted on the jamb of an interior door, it actually slides to the left to disengage, then pivots to the right to get the door out of the way. Just make sure anyone who needs to open the door for safe exit or entry can control this device. This is not difficult, but it may require opening the door slightly to relieve any pressure that may be putting pressure on the unit when properly installed. You certainly don't want someone trapped inside and unable to open the door because they don't have a hand with an eye. Function or coordination/dexterity to safely open the door. I bought two of these and installed one 14" off the top of the door and the second so the bottom was 14" off the floor. These two elements add more holding power to the door, as does the lock and handle, which should already be holding the door. Love the fact that the unit is self contained and swings out of the way when the door is opened. Once the door is closed, simply flip the block over the door and slide until it snaps towards the jamb. The cam design provides a snap action that simultaneously locks the block when holding the door closed and when swinging sideways when the door is open. I love their design and concept. Easy and a block. I've looked at others where you have to remove a part to open the unit and then store that part until you need to re-lock the door. Although this block provides storage for the removed part, this block is a single unit and stays together. You just have to twist it to secure the door or twist it to the side of the doorpost to open the door. Personally, I would put them in pairs on each door, as I have done. Ideally, if you keep the same distance between the door lock and the handle and each of these pieces, one at the top of the door and the other at the bottom of the door, then this should help secure the door. Simple and should be effective. Will it stop someone determined to walk through the door? That should at least deter her. Having them is definitely better than not having them. You may need to cut into the door jamb to countersink the unit's panel to prevent the door from opening. With the door closed and in the interior, check whether the mounting plate with screw holes slides between the door and the reveal opening. Most likely it will. If you can't get a block between the jamb and the door when the door is closed, you definitely need to smash the jamb. This means cutting out enough wood to allow you to mount the unit flush with the door frame. The easiest way to cut a door jamb is with a small wood chisel and a hammer. There is a YouTube video that shows you how to cut a groove in a door frame. If you need to cut a jamb or install the block flush, be sure to position it so the door closes flush with the block inside. Door. Install the middle temporary screw and check that you can loosen and secure the unit and open and close the door. After attaching, attach other screws and try the device again. It is really that easy.
