I like what I can do with this product despite the issues to consider before buying. I have many, many 35mm slides from the 1960's and 70's that I wanted to digitize to keep safe and share with family. This product will get the job done, albeit with a few issues. First, it was not designed for Windows 7, but with some modifications it works on Windows 7. I had to download the latest drivers and editing software from their website before the slide image appeared on my monitor. For some reason, Windows will tell you that your driver is up to date from the hard drive when in fact it is not. Secondly: The tray only holds 3 slides installed at a time and it often gets caught on the edge of a center mounted slide when trying to secure slides before loading them into the scanner. This isn't a huge problem, but it's a minor annoyance as the tray needs to be closed properly to keep it from getting stuck in the scanner. Third, my old processor and graphics card had trouble working with the scanner. The system is often locked for 20 minutes. I recently bought a new system with an i5 750 processor and a 1GB ATI Radeon HD 5450 card. Everything works very smoothly in this system. Fourth, the automatic color and lighting settings are sometimes inconsistent and often add too much light to the image. So I have to adjust each slide manually. They put you in control in order to do this. It doesn't bother me at all because my desire for the most perfect possible pictures would force me to do so, even with the ingenious auto setting. Fifth, when you calibrate the scanner, you can specify the quality, file type, and color depth. But exiting the scanner program resets the quality to normal, so you must remember to reset it back to the desired setting if you need to close and reopen the scanner program. That's about all the problems there are. On the plus side, I would like to say that the customer service of this product is outstanding. The person I spoke to about getting it working on Windows 7 was polite and patient with troubleshooting and was very efficient in finding solutions even though I was new to Windows 7. He even recommended a few free downloads that he uses for quick editing and saving. he transformed the photo. Based on my experience with their tech support I will be very confident in buying from this company again. The joy I feel when I see pictures of my parents before they got married and throughout my siblings' childhood was tremendous. Being able to share some of these pictures with my relatives means a lot to us. If Slide2PC can do it for you, don't hesitate to get it. I found it worth it. Will buy from this company again.
