Review on πŸ–₯️ Waveshare 7 Inch Capacitive Touch Screen LCD (C) 1024 X 600 HDMI Interface Display Shield Panel - Raspberry Pi/PC Compatible - Raspberry Pi4 3 Model B Supported by James Ssims

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Probably bad hardware. If that doesn't work right away, adventure awaits.

I have just purchased a 7 inch HDMI LCD (C) from Revain USA. I got a new Raspbian OS image (2017-07-05-raspbian-jessie), flashed it to the card and edited /boot/config.txt to add: max_usb_current=1hdmi_group=2hdmi_mode=87hdmi_cvt 1024 600 60 6 0 0 0hdmi_drive=1I booted up my Raspberry Pi 3 and got nothing but a white screen. No image, no response to touch. I looked at the EDID screen in anticipation of more information. Either the EDID is inaccurate or in a format that the current version of X11 does not recognize. So I added to /boot/config.txt:hdmi_ignore_edid=0xa5000080. On the next boot the screen worked fine - nice display, working touchscreen, even fairly fast boot up. When booting from number 2, the screen didn't work well. The image was very blurry - legible but almost unusable. On boot number 3, the screen was so washed out and saturated with light that the image from the Raspbian desktop was barely visible. I added the following line to /boot/config. txt but it had no visible effect. config_hdmi_boost=4 I believe the display hardware is faulty and I will be returning it for a different product unless there is a software fix. I am also emailing this post to service@waveshare.com but they seem to have a reputation for being slow or not responding at all. UPDATE: The hardware was bad. I sent it back and got a new one that works very well. Crisp, fast display and touch is pretty accurate. I have changed my rating to 4 stars. I can also add that Waveshare's customer support is now very responsive based on my personal experience. I received immediate answers to my questions (same day) and their suggestion to test the original display with the desktop confirmed that I had a hardware issue. Now a happy customer.
