Works great with Raspberry Pi 2

With all the negative reviews I thought it would be difficult to get started but I'm no fool when it comes to technical stuff so I gave it a try. It was really easy. I got it working with two different Raspian images (Hypriot and standard Jessie) by simply adding a few lines to config.txt: max_usb_current=1hdmi_group=2hdmi_mode=87hdmi_cvt=1024 600 60 6 0 0 0 The first one Row allows you to send the pi more power through the USB ports, the other three set the resolution manually for HDMI. These…

Pros
  • Brilliantly made
Cons
  • Was damaged

The device itself looks pretty good, but the documentation and software/drivers that come with it aren't great. I can't recommend that for Rasp2 at the moment. Kernel binaries only, no driver support, standard Raspberry Pi 2 operating systems do not support the device. It took a lot of fiddling to get it working with a vanilla install of Jessie on Rasp2. Had to use this https://github.com/derekhe/waveshare-7inch-touchscreen-driver to get the touchscreen working. There is also no connection from

Touch isn't working and the company isn't responding to help requests

According to the instructions on the Waveshare wiki, this thing isn't working. My experience is that the touchscreen doesn't work whether you use the default Raspian Jessie and add drivers or use the Waveshare image. The display itself works, but don't touch it. Also, my official Raspberry Pi Wi-Fi dongle doesn't work while the screen is connected to the Pi. I tried the screen on Raspberry Pi B, Raspberry Pi 2 B and Raspberry Pi Zero. Also, I can't get the company to respond to email inquiries.

Pros
  • Crossing my fingers
Cons
  • Out of fashion

First of all I don't see this product in terms of use for a Raspberry Pi but someone is using it instead as a panel for a custom VR headset. I can't think of any other way to describe the overclocking capabilities. I was absolutely blown away when I was able to overclock the display to 145Hz, making it suitable not only for extended VR use without motion sickness, but also for competitive gaming. Box when connected to a PC with Windows 10. -High pixel density as stated -Brightness -Overclocked…

Waveshare Custom Screen

Great little screen. Almost returned. I burned the image from a CD and Viola added a nice note and that was it. It seems that you need to specify 4 lines in the /boot/config.txt file for it to run. My other 2 also work for me just by adding the rows. (A sample config.txt file is included on the CD). I had problems with Xbian, OSMC and KODI. still trying. It goes blank after loading Kodi screen or junk. I think it has to do with strength. I'll see if externally powered USB helps as the USB PI…

  • Excellent Design

  • Flawful

I have just purchased a 7 inch HDMI LCD (C) from Revain USA. I got a new Raspbian OS image (2017-07-05-raspbian-jessie), flashed it to the card and edited /boot/config.txt to add: max_usb_current=1hdmi_group=2hdmi_mode=87hdmi_cvt 1024 600 60 6 0 0 0hdmi_drive=1I booted up my Raspberry Pi 3 and got nothing but a white screen. No image, no response to touch. I looked at the EDID screen in anticipation of more information. Either the EDID is inaccurate or in a format that the current version of…

Could use a bit more design

I bought this as a display (version 2.1) for my Raspberry Pi 2 running OctoPrint with the awesome TouchUI plugin. This display works great and has a higher resolution than the official Raspberry Pi display (1024 x 600 vs 800 x 480). Colors are fairly accurate, although those used to oversaturated LCDs might find it a bit dull. The capacitive touch works well, however there are some bugs very close to the corners which can cause some erroneous clicks, but this area is small enough to be avoided.
