mesh inserts inside are covered with fabric to protect the foot from the mesh, but this is not a soft fabric. Children complain that their feet rub very unpleasantly when they walk. This differs from other water boots we have (like the Speedo) where the inner fabric is soft/low friction over the mesh sections. Also, adjusting the size on the back makes it difficult to put the shoe on. If you pull on it to get your foot in, it will close your mouth and make your job that much harder.
