Review on Amazon Basics 15ft 4K@30Hz Uni-Directional DisplayPort to HDMI Display Cable by Justin Sherman

Revainrating 5 out of 5

It is well made and works.

In short, it's a cable. It looks well made and works, which is all you'd expect from a cable, hence the five stars. For context, I used this cable to replace a combination HDMI cable and DisplayPort to HDMI adapter. to connect my computer's DisplayPort video output to my LED monitor's HDMI input. I had intermittent issues with the monitor turning off or losing sync and startup delays during which Windows seemed to be looking for something that both seemed to be related to a key; So I decided to try this cable instead. It seems to have solved both problems fairly well. Hooray! However, reading the reviews, I noticed that some people say that this cable doesn't fit, doesn't work, or reduces the video resolution. I believe that most of these people simply bought the wrong cable. Let me try to simplify things a bit. 1. This cable connects a full-size DisplayPort output (e.g. on a computer) to a full-size HDMI input (e.g. on a monitor, TV or projector). If this isn't what you're trying to do, then this isn't the cable for you.2. The source (e.g. computer) must be DisplayPort and the destination (e.g. monitor) must be HDMI. This does NOT work in reverse. In terms of computers, this is a unidirectional cable, not bidirectional.3. If you are using a 4K/UHD (3840 x 2160) resolution display, you do NOT need this cable. 4K requires an HDMI 1.4 cable. This cable is designed for resolutions up to FHD (1920 x 1080) only. Finally, note that you do NOT need a DisplayPort to HDMI dongle when using this cable. This cable replaces both the key and the cable. So if you are currently using an adapter and cable combination, remove both before installing this cable. Richard

Pros
  • PRACTICAL: Perfect for watching movies on a big HDTV screen, presenting work on a projector, or setting up a second monitor or mirrored display
Cons
  • Easily crumpled
