Review on πŸ’» Dell U3818DW QHD Ultrawide Gaming Monitor with LED Lit Screen, 3840X1600P Resolution by Thomas Yeshwas

Revainrating 5 out of 5

As the saying goes, you can't be too rich, too skinny or too much screen real estate.

I'm now good – so far – on the third point. Incredible monitor, but getting a working one from Revain isn't easy. I received two damaged units when ordering from Revain (one with a cracked LCD, the other turned on and off within the first few hours of use). [I'll spare you the details, but it was just really bad Revain delivery.] I ended up ordering directly from the manufacturer and received the unit in perfect condition. Even the second monitor, which turned on and off, was generally pretty good and worked pretty well: wonderful, amazing, glorious. I bought it to replace an old Dell 30" (U-3011). This model had a 2560 x 1600 resolution and a number of other displays north of the 32" vertical had 1440 resolutions and I didn't want to go up With a slightly larger dot pitch/smaller pixel size and narrow bezels (1cm top, right and left, 1.5cm bottom), this device is noticeably shorter than the 3011, which surprised me, and I run it through the display . port with Titan. I haven't used the KVM features yet as I usually only use remote desktop on different computers, but I'll test it and let you know if there are any difficulties - tested, works fine, see update below) Recent comments: * Along with the narrower bezel, this monitor is thin and the stand is very solidly made but cuts out a pretty decent profile Overall the design lets the monitor stand up s appear as small as possible for its size. the colors look very "real" to my layman.* The built-in speakers are quite powerful - even at 40% volume on the monitor, I usually turn the video volume down to 30%/40% on the computer.* A disadvantage in the Compared to all the big Dells I've had in the past: no card reader. I have one on my PC and there's no shortage of USB card reader options, so it's not a big deal. A user asked in the comments if the screen needs to be raised for comfortable viewing. It's not for me, but others might feel different depending on their size/chair/table etc. Details: At full stand height, the viewing area is between 6.75 and 21.25 inches above the table surface (i.e. the vertical center point of the monitor is 14 inches above the table). Update (September 12, 2017): I was able to use KVM features - works fine. Wireless mouse and keyboard dongles (respectively, Anker and Microsoft) plugged into the monitor's USB ports, added USB cables between computers and through the OSD , specific connectors tied to HDMI and DP with correct USB. I've used it to switch between a Raspberry Pi and my desktop PC. Note that the monitor only has two USB inputs, so a powered hub may be needed if more than two USB devices from two computers are connected are to be shared.
