My old Weller soldering gun used thinner soldering tips. See comparison photos. I saw a YouTube video about hot rodding an old Weller soldering iron. The video states that the larger diameter Weller 7250W tip is used instead of the Weller 7135N tips. **Important** If you choose to do this you can also order a Weller 7135N soldering tip kit which comes with mounting nuts so you have an extra set. You will need to change the mounting nuts to accommodate the larger 7250w handpiece. I used wire cutters to cut and remove the old soldering tip from the original mounting nuts. I experimented with several drill bits until I found the right size hole that the larger 7250W tip would fit. Once the holes are the right size, I thread the legs of the new 7250W handpiece through the mounting nuts. I also had to very lightly drill holes on the two sides/ends of the soldering gun where the bent ends of the tip go in. After all. I screwed the mounting nuts into the ends of the soldering gun. I immediately noticed the difference. The larger tip heats up faster and is better for soldering thicker wires. After a few simple modifications, Weller's old shotgun has been given new life. worth the effort.
