irregular grind and mess (updated)

UPDATED REVIEW - the chef contacted me after my review and immediately sent a new grinder, convinced I had received a defective one. I was hesitant to start again, but with such customer service, how not to try again?! Suffice it to say that the second grinder had a more consistent grind, and I enjoy using ground coffee in a French press. I'm still disappointed with how dirty the mill is. Perhaps if the container that collects the ground coffee didn't have a lid it would be less messy, but overall I'm changing my rating from one star to four. Customer service was spot on, apologetic and we are very motivated to make things right which I 100% appreciate! Thanks cook! I really wanted to love this grinder, but on the coarsest setting, half is still fine dust mixed with a coarse grind. I might even forget it, but it's the dirtiest thing there is. As soon as you open the lid of the container, the grist falls down, the grist scatters on hands and counters. I figured maybe it was an accident or user error so I read the instructions several times and tried again this morning but it's even worse. I'd like to think it's me who didn't learn the art of the coffee bean, but I'm a 7-year veteran Starbucks supervisor, twice trained as a black-apron coffee master. I just hope Amazon takes it back after using it twice. not worth the trouble.
