Review on 🚚 Andersen Hitches No-Sway Weight Distribution Hitch with 4in Drop/Rise, 2-5/16in Ball, and Universal Frame Brackets: Effortless Towing Solution by Michael Morgan

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Compact, lightweight WDH that works

Just drove 2800 miles round trip with this hitch. The clutch does what it's designed to do - great control over sway and distributes some weight to the front axle. Overall I really like the hitch and would recommend it, however I can't give it 5 stars due to some minor issues I've encountered. It just didn't work on the new hard side, it felt like we were too close if not slightly over the EQ's capabilities, and it just didn't give me the swing control I was used to. It was more expensive, but I chose the Anderson coupler over the higher capacity EQ because it seemed easier to use and hook up. Since the pin hole was not perpendicular to the hitch from the factory, I had to try to figure out the angle and rotate the car accordingly. To me it's just stupidity/laziness on the part of Anderson not to be able to find a way to mount the plate so that it's perpendicular to the hitch from the factory. Check out the Anderson setup video on YouTube if you're interested in what I'm referring to here. Once the angle was figured out, the rest of the setup was pretty straightforward/easy. Some other picky things that keep me from giving a fifth star. In the setup video Anderson says that once you put the nut behind the tire it doesn't need to be adjusted to remove the block, then use a tongue and groove jack to raise the truck and trailer when they do connected together Remove the pin under the ball. The problem I had when raising the truck and trailer was that the ball came out of the cone so easily that it was enough to get the pin attached to the hitch. The same applies to installation, when the truck and trailer are lifted, the holes for the plate and the bottom of the ball cannot be aligned to insert the pin. In the video, Anderson describes the mark on the included socket for counting turns, my socket had no marks on it. When I open the box, there is already rust on the welds, meaning the corners aren't painted that well. Even after 2800 miles, the friction material between the hitch and the ball began to shrink and crack. It's not an issue at this point, but it does raise the question of how well they were pressed together at the factory and how long that would last. Compensation. Also (and a big plus) the hitch is small enough to remain attached to the back of the truck when unhitching from the trailer, compared to removing the large, cumbersome hitch on the grader.

Pros
  • Handy part
Cons
  • So far so good
