I needed to replace a faulty HDMI splitter at the church that sends the signal to our large TV, as well as a VGA splitter that drives multiple additional TVs/monitors. I've tried the USB powered one. In our setup, this proved very cumbersome and inconsistent. This splitter, which has its own power supply, has proven to be much more stable and only allows me to use the HDMI cable from my computer instead of the HDMI and USB. So it works great for us. And I don't notice any drop in quality on our HD TV, although the manual says that's to be expected - I recommend turning on and/or plugging in the HD target first. We are very happy.
