Direct Fit to Replace Parts

bad. It squeezed easily, but was still pretty strong on rebound. It turns out that a little compression is normal for a trailer shock absorber. The new dampers have a bit more resistance in both directions, so I decided to install them. I expect only a small difference in how my trailer drives. It was a direct replacement damper that had a Dexter part number. The delivery was very quick and there were no instructions included. I've done shocks before, so it wasn't that hard. Jack up the trailer, place the stand under the frame and lower the axles. This allows you to remove the old shock absorbers and install new ones. You may not even have to do this. My front axle did not have to be jacked up. I swapped both sides with no chassis changes. The rear axle had to be further removed from the frame to allow the shock absorbers to be removed. It would be nice to know how much torque to apply to the nuts. Too much torque and the bushings won't last long. If the torque is insufficient, the damper will bang against the mounting bracket. Update 2019: I am in the process of removing these shock absorbers from my trailer. They are replaced by Monroe shock absorbers 555025. Monroe shock absorbers offer more rebound resistance in both directions. Monroe 555025 shocks compress/expand longer than Lippert shocks. That worried me. However, I have tested the new shocks in the suspension at both full compression and full extension and they work great on my car.
