On the one hand, my trailer has a full drawbar up to the first axle. I wouldn't add a side gate unless the trailer had a full tongue. I wanted to make a side gate for my 20 foot 12,000 pound trailer. It's much easier to load a 2 ton pallet from the side and push two from the back. I used a weft in front and a longer one near the axle.
