Review on 🧊 W&P Extra Large Charcoal Cube Tray - Single by Nancy Scott

I originally considered buying this item because it has a lid. My old open tray always produced cubes with a "freeze smell" so I liked the idea of putting a lid on it. I also liked that it has an internal frame that helps keep it stable when placed in the freezer. I thought it was overpriced but when I saw 128 5 star reviews I decided to pull the trigger. However, after using it I was very disappointed. The main benefit - the "lid" - is nothing more than a silicone mat cut out to rest on the tray! There's no locking mechanism or way to keep the "lid" from slipping and detaching - and in fact it does just that. What kind of defeats the purpose, doesn't it? The "inner frame" seems solid enough to maintain some stability, but it only runs around the perimeter of the top. It would be better if it went all the way down to create structure at the bottom. One of the downsides to these types of dice trays is that they are prone to wobbling and tipping over, so having a metal frame as a feature offers a real competitive advantage. The cube itself is actually too big to fit in a standard rock! Well, to be clear, the cube fits, but you have to put it in and it doesn't reach the bottom, meaning it won't work as intended if you're just drinking straight booze. (I've tried this on a couple of glasses, so I know it's not just some weird glass design.) To whoever designed the tray: YOU HAD A JOB. Why not determine the dimensions of the tray using a standard sized glass - you know, the kind of glass that people typically use these cubes in? It is confusing. To be fair I could of course measure my jars in advance to ensure the measurements given on this tray make cubes that work in a jar but… who does that? I can assume that the product is compatible with the standard container with which it is used. To be honest I'm shocked to see how many 5 star reviews this thing gets - it seems a bit lazy. But maybe others don't have the problem with the shortcomings I found. Either way, do your homework and compare the store instead of just buying this item based on ratings/stars. It doesn't really work as advertised and it's way overpriced for what it is. :-(Anyway, good idea and acceptable quality, but terrible design and execution. What a bummer. I think I need another bourbon. Not bad I guess?
