. I give StarTech 5 stars even though this cable should It worked for me, but it doesn't work for me. My sole purpose in writing this review is to help someone who may be in the exact same circumstances so they don't waste time trying to fix the same problem that hit me. And as a compliment to StarTech. I have an old Mac Pro Tower from around 2008 and a new MacBook Pro. I was trying to retrieve some data from an old 2.5" SATA drive that was living in my tower and now sitting on a shelf. The StarTech USB to SATA cable did not include my old drive. My old 2.5" SATA drive is a WD Velociraptor. Formerly they were unholy fasts. And used more juice than their peers too (my Velociraptor drive is a 150GB WD1500BLFS drive - it's rated at 0.95A @ 5VDC + 0.3A @ 12VDC - that's a LOT of juice - almost 10 W!). I wasn't sure if this StarTech cable would stand up to such a test. My Apple says it can only handle half of that, but I have a hub that can do a lot more. The installation just didn't work. So I bought a new Samsung SSD from Revain, popped the old 2.5" drive into my Mac Pro Tower and copied the data to my SSD in flash using a StarTech cable, pardon the pun. So you're asking why 5 StarTech stars for something that didn't work for me? Just. Two reasons. First, they took the time to attach a tiny LED to their cable. Thank you Startech! When I plugged StarTech into my Mac and it didn't. If I didn't have my 2.5" drive plugged in, at least I knew (by the LED) I had a good connection - the problem was probably mine. I had a second reason for a 5 star review. Looking at volts, amps and USB I found the StarTech website complete and easy to navigate. I entered the part number of this cable and was taken to a page with complete and easy to read specifications. Apple's specs were just as good as WD's. Wow! StarTech is as meticulous as Apple. who knew What could have been a two hour exercise in frustration was reduced to 15 minutes of trying, failing, reading specs, solving the problem differently and moving on with my life. Too bad that other sellers are not so attentive. Thanks again Startech!
