Saved me from replacing my daughter's (Late 2011) MacBook Pro!

My high school daughter complained that her MacBook Pro (Late 2011) was very slow. She mainly uses it for schoolwork and listening to music, but I've seen her complain about the "spinning beach ball" every time she opens the app or surfs the web. After reading about the success of many people replacing the slow 5400RPM hard drive that came with the Mac with one of the newer SSDs, I decided to upgrade. Here are my steps: 1.) Buy a 500GB Samsung SSD ($80) 2.) Buy this StarTech USB 3.0 to 2.5"…

Pros
  • SATA Cable
Cons
  • No Performance

A cup of coffee spilled on the computer. I know what you're thinking; Yes, I'm a little dead inside! On my new Dell Windows 10 multifunction touchscreen (sold at Best Buy for just under $300), I plugged it into an old hard drive (very easy to find when I picked up an HP Pavilion laptop). open) Right-click the Start button, select Disk Management. For me it is drive E. Right click drive E and click Open. Of course he said that I'm not an administrator, but he opened anyway. GUESS WHAT? I clicked

. I give StarTech 5 stars even though this cable should It worked for me, but it doesn't work for me. My sole purpose in writing this review is to help someone who may be in the exact same circumstances so they don't waste time trying to fix the same problem that hit me. And as a compliment to StarTech. I have an old Mac Pro Tower from around 2008 and a new MacBook Pro. I was trying to retrieve some data from an old 2.5" SATA drive that was living in my tower and now sitting on a shelf. The…

Heats up but works well

Well it works and yes it is Sata 3.1 but there are a few things I didn't like. First, it gets very hot during use. Second, there is no LED to indicate disk access. There is a RED LED on the bottom to indicate power is on. While a 20-inch cable might be enough for laptop use, it's a real problem for a desktop with USB3 ports on the back. If they had a 1 meter cable it would be more suitable. even better if it was a thin, flexible, braided cable. Update: Bus 004 Device 002: ID 174c: 55aa Bridge…

Cons
  • There are more interesting options.

As the title says the cable is fine, check elsewhere if you have problems to have. And please folks, this plugs into a USB port. USB power delivery is limited to 500 mA (USB 2.0) and 900 mA (USB 3.0). You can't connect a 3.5" hard drive or an older 2.5" hard drive with this cable, it's not a cable, it's your computer's USB port. I have purchased several Startech products over the past few years. I like the quality and unassuming presentation. This cable has the added benefit of the old USB to…
