Review on Black and Decker 18V Battery Charger Replacement 90556254-01: Compatible with NiCad & NiMh Batteries HPB12, FS12B, HPB14, FSB14, HPB18, HPB18-OPE, FSB18, HPB96, FSB96 by Doug Davis

I'm not sure if this is normal for other brand chargers but when charging one of my batteries the device got very hot. Both batteries came with a brand new drill. I completely used up both batteries when I realized I had put the OEM charger in a different box. After reading the reviews I figured this charger would be a good replacement. I had both the battery and charger on a metal surface to keep the device and battery a bit cooler. To be honest, I didn't feel safe leaving the device unattended. The device never fully charged the first battery (the gauge never changed to show full charge) until it reached an unsafe temperature, and I'm not sure the second battery can be trusted. I believe excessive heat can affect battery life. Maybe I have an indefinite one.
