The filter may not fit your Craftsman 5+ gallon vacuum.
Installing the filter wasn't that easy. I had to work really hard to reconcile it. The description says it fits all Craftsman 5+ gallon vacuums but it was too small for mine. I finally got it. I assume that there are specific filters for each vacuum cleaner model. The vacuum works, I just don't think it's the right filter.
