It does what it says on the tin. However, I've never used it just to fix a piece of plastic. I always start by melting the entire crack with a Weller 200W soldering iron. So I only put the reinforcement in the most important places where it can break again. But it resulted in a very permanent repair. Some things that could be improved: 1. It would be nice to have better voltage control. The trigger is really just a handy on/off switch. It would be a lot easier to use this if it was an actual potentiometer so you could control how fast and how hot the clamp heats up. In any case, allow some time to practice your technique, especially with thin plastic like trash cans. Because the first few times you put the clip right through the plastic and just leave a weird hole. It reminded me to write to my ex-wife. 2. Once you learn how to properly hang these things in the molten plastic, you are left with two very hard and very sharp pieces of metal sticking out. Here's the problem: your trusty wire cutters won't cut close enough to the surface to leave a shorter but no less sharp piece of wire sticking out. Ditto for the cheap and pointless cutters included in the kit. If you think you're smart because you have a pair of precision flush cutters, I'll save you $30 now. These wires can dent the blades of your precision cutters. I have tried the very best German brands and while they are successful in cutting these wires, it is very expensive. How do you feel about these little bastards? I recommend holy water and a long stick. Either that or use a Dremel with a tungsten carbide bit. Stone grinding bits work as a last resort, but this wire cuts grooves in very quickly.3. It could have gone much better. Weird fasteners (you'll see) make it very easy to open something upside down. If you do this and keep the staples in their designated compartments, all 100,000,000 of them will be scattered all over your territory. Having some sort of cover for these slots would be a really nice touch. I will return the wire cutters if I can get the lids. However, I've managed to find a way to squeeze a few other fully enclosed containers into the gun case to solve this problem, but it's far from ideal. Zippered pockets might be a better choice.
