Shift cables are usually made of galvanized or stainless steel. I prefer stainless steel as it should be more corrosion resistant than zinc plated (yes, chemists can consider stainless doesn't mean no rust, but close enough). I don't know if they will last longer than zinc plated ones, as I usually replace the cables for wear at the clamp (probably due to the cable bending too much from impact) or because I want to touch up/replace the handlebars. / stem / derailleur / derailleur due to damage or endless attempts to make the bike fit. Whatever your preference, Jagwire makes good cables, cases, and various other parts, so I ordered a few to have on hand. They're hard to find in bulk and quite expensive, so I might try the good old galvanized ones to save some money and see how they do in my climate. Stainless steel feels smoother than zinc plated, so I'm not sure if that means better performance. Also worth a test so I can give another review in the future. So far they are working perfectly, so I recommend them.
