Review on DEWALT Drive T47 TORX Socket by Julian Rash

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Did the job but the shaft is too long

It did the job I bought it for - replacing the belt tensioner on a 2001 Ford Taurus station wagon. But I think the length of the shaft is a downside. This application requires you to reach into the tight space between the front of the engine cross member and the passenger side wheel arch with a torx screw. (Thanks, Ford engineers.) The extra wobble that a longer shaft introduces reduces the torque applied and increases the likelihood of the head coming off. Of course, this is a specialized application, but the same disadvantage is common even with a direct application. Increasing the shaft length increases vibration and reduces torque. So why not make the shaft a little shorter? This benefits the user in most situations. In cases where you need extra length you can always use a socket extender. I would give the tool 3.5 stars if it was possible because it did the job for me without removing or leaving. And it looks good and feels good. But I can't say "I like". . . it's just "good".

Pros
  • Great design
Cons
  • Crumpled packaging
