Review on 🚴 Velocomp PowerPod V3: Highly Accurate Black Cycling Power Meter for Road, Mountain, Time Trial, Gravel, and Cross Bikes by Ronald Bleimeyer

Revainrating 4 out of 5

This is the review you want to read. I'll tell you it works. But .

You don't want to buy these. Why? This is version 3. Version 4 is out, the price is exactly the same. You get less tech that way (I think from what I can tell from the week I've had it). This price is exactly the same as version 4. In my opinion, if you eliminate old technology, the price should be stimulated. Price. It's not like this. Okay, I'll be very critical in the next few lines, but this gets a lot better. If you are interested in buying this device, read everything. This is bad. Let's start with that. My first calibration ride didn't work. The second did. It was not clear how to restart the device. BTW, press the button on the SIDE and not the top. "Why doesn't this button work?" That's why it looks like the button is on top, but it's pressed from the side. The instructions don't mention this. You can see the instruction picture. So version 4 is out. I have a Garmin 830. I will never go without it. So this device is sharing its data with Garmin and the device is not recording the entire ride on their website. The LITE version, which costs $199, can be fully upgraded by downloading a software key. So you're buying hardware that can be disabled for an additional $69. (Sounds like a software company scam? Yes, it is) Your Isaac software looks like a Windows 3.1 application and I've only seen worse software when working with hams. This Isaac software is the worst (photo included. Yuk) Okay now that I've completely destroyed the device and told you all the bad stuff in full. That is good news. Good news. Check my country numbers on my 4th trip with this thing. (Attached a photo from last night driving home a bit uphill) It works. Period. It uses the same technology as the pitot tube in an airplane. It's good for Airbus and multi-million dollar Boeing planes to fly through the skies. This is enough to measure the power on my bike. I've read a few articles and think it's every bit as good as a crank based power meter and in some ways even better. This is version V3. So they sell their old items on Revain and don't sell their new ones here. Maybe after reading the description of V4, the features listed in V4 are also in V3? It looks the same and my machine came from the factory with firmware version 7. The first update I did on my computer was to update it to version 8.1. There is a $9 pitot tube that costs $12 to ship. I think that might be the only difference between V3 and V4. You can't tell from online descriptions. Version 4 appears to be an update but upon reading I'm not even sure. Have a Garmin and only use one bike. You can probably buy a Lite. just as. Add an $8 pitot tube and you're ready to ride in the rain. Since my brakes are pretty neat too. nothing gives you that but this device. (Because there is some kind of accelerometer inside. It also records your tilt and other things. It is very important that it does not move in the mount. (In practice, the mount was good and I was able to fix it in this position It wasn't moving when I stumbled across it Nice device Strange software Terrible installation Poor instructions BUT IT WORKS and is fascinating If you want to unleash the power of your Garmin.
