Works well with 18 " MBPro Retina Display

For those of you who buy a 2018 MacBook Pro 18" Retina, you'll be disappointed by the lack of connectivity options - all you get are 4 proprietary Thunderbolt 3 ports. If you don't want to upgrade all the peripherals (!), this device represents the perfect solution. It occupies two of your TB3 ports (either on the left or flip the device over to place it on the right of your laptop), but gives you one back (so you still have 3xTB3), there's also 2 USB3.1 ports (the older larger USB port), a USB-C port as well as microSD and SD card readers, and an HDMI port that seems to support 4K ( I haven't been able to test it). The connector is very tight, and for inexperienced users it can be a bit uncomfortable to insert the device into the computer so firmly. But once connected, it won't accidentally let go - it's a good thing the data transfer isn't interrupted. I suspect this might be an issue for one of the reviews that claims it only works half the time; the device may simply not be seated firmly enough. The unit does get a little warm, but not as much as the computer itself, and certainly not to the extent of similar models from other manufacturers, according to reviewers on this site. Overall I'm very happy with it - it does exactly what I wanted it to do. I would give 4.5 stars if such an option was available; The last half of the star is due to having to modify my Kuzy case to fit this device... not that hard but frustrating that I have to smash into a brand new case. perfectly functional. As a bonus, I found a padded spare reading glasses case (in space grey, of course!). It protects the device well when being rocked in a bag, as I wouldn't recommend taking it with you when it's attached to a laptop.

Pros
  • Crystal Clear 4K Resolution - Equipped with HDMI and TB3 connectors. HDMI supports up to 4K@30Hz, TB3 supports up to 5K@60Hz or dual 4K displays@60Hz.
