Review on 💨 Dynatron R30 Active Coolers: Powerful Processor Cooling Solution by Shawn Xayamonty

Tiny works with 160+ W Xeon/i9 processors

Can work with 160W 18-core Xeon/i9 processors. But at 100% CPU usage it can get noisy. Compared to the Noctua L12, which I tested on one of the dual-socket Xeon 2697 v4 processors, the Dynatron runs 10°C (29-39°C) hotter at idle and 20°C (60-80°C) hotter at idle hot full charge. Temperatures seem to be rising much faster than the Noctua L12, but at 80C the tiny 80mm fan revs up at full speed, capping temperatures at 83C but making a lot of noise. It's quite a steep fan curve to keep temperatures at 80C, but I think it's perfect for servers considering they run at 50% most of the time when the fans are quiet. Note. I tried replacing the built-in fan with a Noctua a9 92mm fan, although they should move the same amount of air at peak load. Noctua climbed to 95 degrees before I aborted the stress test. It looks like this type of cooler needs a smaller 80mm or smaller fan to create airflow through the fins. but it seems that blower design is more suitable, i will try to switch to blower as soon as i find an UPDATE -2 years. I've decided to update this review after accidentally stumbling upon a find. It seems that the reason a particular low-profile cooler doesn't perform as well as the L12 is primarily due to hot airflow (the fans suck some of the hot air away from the processor). The provision of air separation alone increases the performance of the cooler by almost 10 degrees, or to the level of the Noctua L12. In my case, I used a thin acrylic sheet with a fan cutout and placed it on top of the fan (the fan itself holds the sheet), this immediately reduced the peak temperature by 10 degrees (constant fan speed). As a result, my 165 watt processor now ran at 70°C (full load) at maximum fan speed. But it's not ideal because the fan noise at 4000 rpm is loud. But it was possible to change the fan curve to a maximum speed of 2500 rpm, which allowed the processor's maximum temperature to be set at 80 ° C and was as quiet as the Noctua a9's silent narrow 15 mm fan. so I'm increasing this to 5 stars.

Pros
  • CPU socket: 2011 (Square type, 80 x 80mm spacing)
