Review on 🚲 Trunk Mount Carrier - Thule Passage by Sean Huff

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Reliable Thule product, works well with Mazda 3

works well with my Mazda 3 (2008). Thule's instructions actually limit the Mazda 3 (2008) to just a 2-bike version of the 910XT, but the mounting mechanism and all components are the same on the 910XT and 911XT, with the exception of the length of the tube the bikes hang from. I now only use the 911XT for two bikes but wanted an extra third just in case my young child's bike would fit on it. next year or when we switch to another vehicle that also officially supports 911XT. This holder is very easy to install and has not damaged my car in any way. It takes me 5 minutes to assemble the bike rack. The ability to fold down the support tubes when the bikes are not mounted is a big advantage over other products. Thus, the trunk protrudes only minimally over the vehicle. I've ridden Boston-area roads that are notorious for potholes and so far the trunk and bikes have held up very well and felt safe. I recommend to everyone. One of my two bikes is a women's bike without a straight top bar, for which I had to buy a Thule Frame Adapter 982XT, https://www.amazon.com/Thule-982XT-Frame-Adapter/dp/B004KZS5GW/ref= sr_1_1 ?ie =UTF8&qid=1497495028&sr=8-1&keywords=thule+adapter I bought this half price frame adapter from EMS store for $20. I find Thule's regular price too high. This is a very simple detail and one would consider buying a cheaper product. While I'm happy to pay more for Thule quality for an actual bike rack, as it's pretty delicate technology and needs to be done well to avoid damaging the car and keeping the bikes safe and secure, the frame adapter is a simple retractable one Pipe . It's not rocket science and shouldn't cost $50.

Pros
  • Stylish and modern design
Cons
  • Legacy model
