Review on πŸ”’ Secure Your Possessions with the Master Lock 8417D Python Cable Lock – Key Included, 1 Pack by Adam Cornelison

Keeps honest people honest. Honestly!

This review relates to a cable with a Master Lock 8417D "Python". Bag but has no way to lock it or even latches or latches that you can put a lock on. I drilled a 1/4" hole in the front "leg" of the toolbox. This allows me to easily thread a Python cable (3/16" diameter) through the hole and wrap the cable around my toolbox. Once the cable is secure, the tool box lid will lock onto the cable. Simplicity itself. I don't use Python to keep my tool bag going; Rather, I want to secure the lid to keep out opportunists, the curious, and most importantly, kids. Working in someone's house with children roaming free encourages children to take something heavy or sharp out of my pocket and injure themselves. The python fits snugly in the lid, allowing me to relax a bit. As other reviews have noted, this cable was designed to "keep honest people honest" - a good pair of wire cutters can puncture the cable with little effort. . For me, this is not a disadvantage for my application - if I wanted more security, I would reach for a different tool box and a reinforced chain. I rated this device four stars due to the apparent weakness of the buttons. Two of them come with Python but they seem to be of the same quality as one of them with a decent luggage set. Something more reliable, even if it means increasing the market price of Python to cover the increased costs, would be desirable (at least from me, YMMV). The lock is not made in the United States and does not appear to be suitable for outdoor use. If he does get wet, I'd suggest giving him a dose of WD-40 (which isn't a great lube, but it displaces water very well). I also think the occasional squirt of lube (I think 3-in-1 oil or graphite) will help the internals work, although this isn't listed on the packaging. The cable itself is coated and seems strong enough for my purposes. HTHRC Regards, Jim.
